Fee Information
APPLICATION FEES:
Application for Licensure;
Initial,
Emergency or
Endorsement:
The application fee for licensure is $250, non-refundable, payable
to NDBOENHA.
LICENSURE FEES:
Annual
License Renewal Fee is $250, non-refundable, payable to NDBOENHA.
LATE FEES:
License renewal applications are due by December 31st
of each year. License
renewals received with a postmark after December 31 will be
assessed a $25 per month late fee. If a renewal is not
received by June 30, the license is no longer considered valid and a new application
for licensure would be required. The North Dakota Department of
Health will be notified of any licenses not renewed by
January 1.

EXAMINATIONS:
Applicants for licensure are required to pass
a national & state examination. For more information on the

Administrator-In-Training
Program
The Administrator-In-Training (AIT) Program will
provide an opportunity for potential nursing facility administrators
to: |
Optimally
function as an administrator in providing service to respective
residents, family & staff. |
Gain
vital practical experience in a nursing facility thus better
preparing them for the national exam. |
The Program length is a minimum 1,000 hours effective 1/1/2023. The Program content will
be flexible to allow opportunity for individuals to create/design
their own learning experiences in accordance with a job analysis and
the testing domains. As of 7/1/2022 the NAB Domains of Practice have been updated as follows:
Domain 1: Care Services, and Supports
Domain 2: Operations
Domain 3: Environmental and Quality
Domain 4: Leadership and Strategy (CORE only)
Written validation of AIT experiences will be required.

North Dakota Approved AIT Practicum colleges and programs
North Dakota Board has approved the following Colleges for their health management program with practicum as an approved AIT program.
- Concordia College, Moorhead, MN: Traditional four-year program with a bachelor's degree in Health Services Administration with a focus in Long Term Care. This program is accredited by the National Association of Boards for Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) and is currently applying for HSE approval.
- Minnesota State University, Moorhead, MN: Minnesota State University Moorhead - offers a traditional four-year program with a bachelor's degree in Health Services Administration with a focus in long-term care and graduate (MHA) program with courses focused on long-term care.
- University of Minnesota, Crookston, MN: Offers a Bachelorette degree in Health Management. This program is accredited by the National Association of Boards for Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) and meets the standards for the Health Services Executive (HSE) student eligibility.
- University of South Dakota, Vermilion, SD: Offers a traditional four-year program leaning to a bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration with a focus on Long Term Care.
- Good Samaritan Society Administrator in Training Program: Is an approved AIT program.

Continuing
Education Requirements
To assure and
maintain competence in the field of nursing home administration, the Board
of Examiners requires licensed administrators to attend approved classes, seminars,
or conferences. A minimum of 20
hours of continuing education is required for license renewal.
The
following sponsors of continuing education offerings are
recognized by the NDBOENHA:

Long Term Care Association
- ND
Hospital Association
- American
College of Healthcare Administrators/North Dakota Roughrider
Chapter
- NAB/NCERS
- Great Plains Quality Innovation Network
- Hours
recognized and approved by other state Board of Examiners for
Nursing Home Administrators. Verification required.
- College
credits relating to management, finance, human resources, or
gerontology:
-Each
Quarter credit hour will equate to 9 clock hours
-Each
Semester credit hour will equate to 12 clock hours
Please
be advised that governing boards of nursing facilities should be aware of the licensing
rules and regulations as they pertain to having a licensed long term care
administrator managing a licensed long term care facility. Any facility that does not currently have a licensed long term care
administrator is out of compliance with state law and the ND State Health
Department will be notified.
